    Synthesis, Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Substituted Pyrimidines

  • Abstract

    A series of novel pyrimidine derivatives were synthesized from chalcones and evaluated for their antimicrobial activities. Chalcones were prepared by treatment of substituted acetophenones with benzaldehyde by Claisen-Schimidt condensation. Various pyrimidine derivatives (CA01-CA04) were prepared by reaction of chalcone with substituted phenylurea in ethanolic sodium hydroxide solution. The structures of the newly synthesized pyrimidine derivatives have been established on the based on IR, 1H & 13C NMR and elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds (CA01-CA04) were evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activity
