    Development and Adhesion Study of Adhesive System from Biomaterial for Wood Bonding

  • Abstract

    Vegetable oil based adhesive can be used to replace adhesives synthesized from petroleum base stocks used for wood. The reaction was confirmed by the FT-IR spectroscopy. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) was used to study the molecular weight of prepared adhesives. The evaluation of bonding strength of the prepared adhesives was done on Plywood substrate. Performance properties of adhesively bonded wood joints viz., lap shear test, water resistance, acid resistance and alkali resistance of wood joints were studied. The results revealed that a good performance and eco-friendly adhesive system for wood was successfully formulated. Wood adhesive prepared from vegetable oil is good eco-friendly wood adhesive for wood joints.
