    Benzodioxole and 1,2,4-Oxadiazole Associated 1,2,3-Triazoles: Synthesis, Characterization and Evaluation as Antibacterial Agents

  • Abstract

    A novel series of 1-((3-((benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-6-yl)methyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole-5-yl)methyl-4-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazole and its derivatives (5a-f) has been synthesized in good yields by cyclization of 5-(azidomethyl)-3-((benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-6-yl)methyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole(4) by using 3,4-(methylenedioxy) phenylacetonitrile (1) as starting compound and (Z)-2-(Benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-6-yl)- N- hydroxyacetamidine (2) and 3-((benzo[d][1,3]dioxol-6-yl)methyl)-5-(chloromethyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazole (3) as intermediates. The target compounds have been purified and characterized by IR, 1H and 13C NMR, Mass spectral data and elemental analysis. Further, the title compounds were evaluated for their preliminary in vitro antibacterial activity against two representative gram-positive bacteria like Bacillus subtilisand Staphylococcus aureus and two gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi. All tested compounds exhibited moderate to good activity with a degree of modification.
