  • Abstract

    A simple and highly efficient protocol for the synthesis of biologically active 1,8-dioxo-octahydroxanthenes from various aromatic aldehydes with dimedone by using thiourea dioxide (TUD) as catalyst in aqueous media is reported. This protocol gives wide range of xanthene derivatives with high yield.
