4DescriptionAbstract We have successfully synthesized Ag-CdS nanoparticles using a hydrothermal method. The obtained materials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area method, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The synthesized materials were used as photocatalyst for degradation of Acid Red 183 dye under visible light irradiation. The experimental results showed that specific surface are, dopant concentration, pH of dye solution and oxidizing agent affects the rate of dye degradation. The results clearly indicated the photocatalytic activity of CdS effectively improved by Ag doping.
