4 | Description | Abstract | The kinetics of anation of cis-[Cr(C2O4) 2 (H2O) 2]- by ampicillin have been investigated in aqueous medium over the range 3.0 ≤ pH ≤ 5.0, 1.50x10-2mol dm-3 ≤ [AMP] ≤ 4.50x10-2 mol dm-3, I = 0.3 mol dm-3 (KNO3) and at temperature 35 oC ≤ t ≤ 50 oC. The reaction takes place through an Ia mechanism. The rate of reaction is found to increase with increase in [H+] and [AMP-Na]. The activation parameters ΔH≠ and ΔS≠ are found to be 42.4±2.5 and -176.6±8.1 respectively. The negative values of activation entropies (ΔS≠) indicate a more ordered activated complex than the reactants and the reactions are slow. The positive values of activation enthalpy (ΔH≠) shows that the decomposition process is endothermic. The product was isolated as [Cr2 (C2O4)4 (AMP)].2H2O which was confirmed by FTIR and AAS method. The antimicrobacterial activities of the complex was tested against some kind of bacteria comparable with the ampicillin free drug. |
