4DescriptionAbstract A series of poly(N-tert-amylacrylamide?co-acrylamide/2-Acrylamido-2-methyl propane- sulphonic acid) zinc oxide nanocomposite hydrogels were synthesized by free-radical copolymerization in aqueous methanol medium using different monomer ratios at 60 oC with ammonium per sulphate (APS) initiator. N,N?-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) was used as a crosslinker. The zinc oxide nanocomposite hydrogels were prepared via in situ polymerization using zinc oxide nano particles. The swelling behaviour of ZnO nanocomposite hydrogels were studied by gravimetric method. The degree of swelling was increased by increasing the amount of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulphonic acid sodium salt. The SEM/EDX images indicate the presence of zinc oxide nano particles in the polymer matrix.
