4DescriptionAbstract The inhibition efficiency of glutamic acid (GA) – Zn2+ system in controlling corrosion of carbon steel in sea water has been evaluated by weight loss method. The formulation consisting of 200 ppm of glutamic acid and 25 ppm of Zn2+ has 87% inhibition efficiency (IE). A synergistic effect exists between glutamic acid and Zn2+. Polarization study reveals that the glutamic acid - Zn2+ system function as an anodic inhibitor and the formulation controls the anodic reaction predominantly. The nature of the protective film on metal surface has been analyzed by AFM analysis.
