4 | Description | Abstract | Reaction of aromatic aldehydes and dimedone was e?ciently promoted by the TiO2 as a catalyst in acetonitrile at room temperature under ultrasonic irradiation to a?ord the corresponding 9-aryl-1,8-dioxo-octahydroxanthene in excellent yields within minutes. However, the same reaction, without catalyst, yielded the corresponding 2,2'-arylmethylenebis(3-hydroxy-5,5-dimethyl-2-cycloexene-1-one). Study with various aldehydes and dimedone reveals that ultrasound and TiO2 plays a key role in the synthesis of 9-aryl-1,8-dioxo-octahydroxanthene. |
